Quail Hunting at Black Creek
Whether it is a corporate retreat or a group of old friends, guest will experience fast paced quail hunting in true Southern style. We use an
early release program coupled with “Johnny Houses” that allow quail exposure to the wild while giving them food and water in a secure
environment. The result are coveys that will flush together just as wild coveys do.
At Black Creek Plantation, you can enjoy bobwhite quail hunting in plantation style. You can literally hunt out the front door of the lodge in a
combination of thinned pines, open area and some cover, a challenging course for both man and dog. Several courses offering varying degrees of
difficulty are available. The terrain is constantly groomed for maximum quail production. During the summer season, conservation crews plant corn, grain sorghum, millet, peas, lespedezas, and native grasses. Our
conservation plan calls for continual habitat improvement to increase areas for escape cover, nest areas, water, loafing and dusting areas.
Controlled burning keeps briars, brambles, and second-growth trees from taking over. We constantly improve our network of winding roads and trails so you will have access to more coveys .
A typical quail hunting day at Black Creek Plantation starts around 8:30 am with around of clay targets to hone your shooting skills. Field transportation
can provide relatively close access to most coveys. However, we find that most hunters prefer to spend the majority of time on foot. After 3 hours of
hunting, its back to the lodge for a hearty lunch and some hot coffee. Afternoon hunts run from 1:30-4:30 p.m. You will also be given the opportunity to renew old friendships as time spent behind quality dogs does
wonders to relieve the stress of daily life.
A couple of things to keep in mind... Sub-gauge guns are the rule (20ga - 410ga). Semi autos and pumps are allowed but must only hold two shells.
Rental guns and shells are available. Ankle high boots and thick pants are recommend. Blaze orange is required above the waist, either hats or vest. Mixed bags hunts are available but we need to know in advance
Black Creek Plantation is equipped to handle groups of up to 3o with overnight accommodations for up to 12 people. Let us make your next group outing unforgettable.
